Anyfin Murloc Paladin (Standard) deck list and guide - Hearthstone - February 2017

How to play the latest version of Anyfin Murloc Paladin in Season 35.

Anyfin Murloc Paladin is a Hearthstone deck that plays in a very similar fashion to the classical Midrange archetype, but has a unique finishing move thanks to the relatively new card Anyfin Can Happen. As you play through the early and mid-game sections of each match, you use a collection of Murlocs (along with your removal spells and weapons) to manage the board, and then re-summon a massive dose of them on Turn 10 using this powerful card. The idea from here is that the ensuing damage output should be enough to eliminate your opponent in one fell swoop.

It's one of the very fun, very new decks that emerged early on in the League of Explorers metagame. While the popularity of this experimental - some might say rather unreliable and gimmicky - deck has waxed and waned in recent months, it's enjoying a resurgence in the emerging Gadgetzan metagame. We've certainly got a big kick out of it whenever we've fancied shaking the game up for ourselves a little bit.

Despite the fact there's one very clear win-condition at the heart of this deck archetype, that's not to say it's a simple one to pilot to victory. In our next spotlight, we'll run you through the very latest version of the deck list, explain how to Mulligan against your opponents on the ladder, and then cover how all of the most crucial combos work. Hopefully that will empower you to reach a little higher up on the ladder this month.

Editor's note - February Update: The only real change this month involves swapping out the Loot Hoarders for Acolyte of Pain cards. In the current hyper aggressive meta, you've a good chance of getting multiple pings out of the latter card - or at least forcing your opponent to make a sub-optimal play to take it out in one clean hit.

The real show-stopper of this deck takes place on Turn 10, where you pop an Anyfin Can Happen, summon a host of Murlocs on the board and then – hopefully – Charge a disgusting amount of damage straight into your opponent's face.

In the early turns, you want to use low-Mana drops, along with any nice Murloc combos you get, in order to control the board as efficiently as possible and send those creatures off to the great seaside in the sky. The hope is that your Turn 10 play brings both the stat-boosting and the Charge-enabled Murlocs back from the dead and onto the board. Until then, controlling the board is your paramount objective. Stalling your opponent wherever you can is very important, and so throwing Doomsayer out onto an empty boad is often the correct play despite what your instincts might tell you.

You have a huge number of healing options to keep you alive, generous board clearance, and a fair amount of card-draw too. You want to prioritise using the latter wherever possible, so that you get lots of Murlocs onto the board and traded off, and ensure that Anyfin Can Happen is in your hand for when it's needed the most.

Mulliganing for this deck couldn't be simpler. You want to ensure you have a playable minion for Turn 2, and either a three Mana drop or a Truesilver Champion if you have The Coin. Get these taken care of and your odds are good for pulling something out of the bag for future turns as the game progresses.

Anyfin Paladin (Standard) combos and synergies - February 2017

Prior to the release of Gadgetzan it had been a little while since Anyfin Murloc Paladin saw much competitive play, so take a bit of time to refresh your memory of the core combos involved with playing the deck:

- Anyfin Can Happen will randomly summon up to seven Murloc minions that died during the game. Note that any expired Murlocs that were drawn from the first cast of the spell will become part of the the pool the second cast draws from.

- A fast way of getting more Murloc minions fielded is to get Finja, the Flying Star onto the board. Every time she kills an enemy minion, you get two free Murloc cards dragged from your deck onto the board.

- Make sure you familiarise yourself with all of the Murloc synergies in this deck, and note the difference between Battlecry effects, and effects that are applied to the board as long as the minion in question is alive.

- If you cast a spell while Wild Pyromancer is out in play, you will cause a single point of damage to be applied to both friendly and enemy minions. Note that the effect of the spell is played out first, then the "penalty".

- You have two total board clears at your disposal here: Equality / Consecration and Wild Pyromancer / Consecration.

- You can combine your board clears with Solemn Vigil for an extra-generous injection of cards to your hand!
